To evaluate the risk factors in children with Febrile Seizure. This was a hospital based , prospective observational study. The purpose of the study was to identify the risk factors associated with febrile seizure in children. Twenty five children of age between 6 months and 6 years with the diagnosis of febrile seizure admitted to Cosmopolitan Hospital in Thiruvananthapuram, from February 2018 to March 2018 were studied. The data collection tool was a proforma including some informations such as gender, age, type of seizure, body temperature, comorbidities, personal history, past medical history, serum level of electrolytes. All statistical analysis was performed with SPSS software. Among the 25 children hospitalized because of febrile seizures, 84 % of them were of age below 3 years. 76 % patients were males and majority of them were city residents. Also 60 % of patients had high body temperature and the seizure lasted for less than 15 minutes in 88% childrens. Viral fever is reported as the most common underlying cause of febrile seizure. The association between mothers conditions during pregnancy, antenatal natal complications, family history, haemoglobin level and blood sugar level with the cause of febrile seizures was statistically significant. Based on the study, parameters such as age, gender, family history, high body temperature, underlying causes of fever, maternal conditions during pregnancy, antenatal and natal complications, anemia, elevated blood sugar are among the risk factors in occurrence of febrile seizure.
